When you buy a 100-year-old house in the middle of nowhere, you end up with many projects. Some projects are expected when buying an old house, such as cleaning and painting, while others are unexpected, like dealing with broken pipes and leaking toilets. Sometimes the projects are multi-layered like the kitchen remodel, but I’ll get into that later. Then there’s taking care of the yards, and when you have a chunk of land with huge trees and what seems like hundreds of sprinklers, yard care seems endless!
So here is a quick list of projects that need to get done in no specific order.
- Finish the kitchen.
- Repair of termite damage decking outside guest bathroom.
- Cut down a couple of the overgrown trees next to the guest house/future office.
- Trim the Strawberry tree.
- Clear huge piles of leaves off the roof.
- Remove the old satellite dishes from the previous owner.
- Dealing with a huge gopher problem.
- Repair broken sprinklers.
- Fix rotten flooring in the laundry room.
- Re-morter all the walkways and the patio area.
- Fix the cracks in the plaster walls.
- Pressure wash the house siding.
- Paint the house trim work.
- Update the electrical outlets and switches.
- And so many other things.
I’m pretty sure there is a lot more to add to this list, but this is at least a start.
